Take a closer look at historic clothes in the Harris collection and meet other local dressmakers. Inspired by the recent book The Dress Detective we take a slow, close look at historic garments. Together we ‘unpick’, or investigate, how clothes are made. Recent projects have included making new patterns from old clothes. Our aim is to make these patterns open source for digital download. We would love to work with anyone keen to develop this idea. Above all we enjoy exploring historic clothes from the museum’s collection close up and figuring out how they were made. If you are a keen dressmaker who is happy to share knowledge, or a beginner looking to understand more, then this informal and chatty session is for you.
Session type: Free, but booking is essential via Eventbrite or the Museum Shop on 01772 905414.
Length of workshop: 2 hours
Age: All welcome.
Attendees: This is a collaborative session rather than a taught workshop – we are all learning from each other. Experts and beginners both welcome. Participants don’t need to bring any equipment, but anyone with a sketch book or digital camera is welcome to bring them along (but no pens please!).
